MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (AP) -- Federal investigators say it could be days before they make preliminary determinations about what caused a private plane to crash while trying to land at the Mount Airy airport.
The crash killed all six aboard. Investigators recovered the plane's voice recorder from the wreckage of the King Air C-90-A.
National Transportation Safety Board investigator Todd Gunther says investigators did not believe inflight fire or mechanical control failure caused the crash.
Six men aboard the plane were headed to a hunting trip in Virginia when the plane crashed.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown says the aircraft appeared to come in to land too high and veered off to come back when it crashed.
Investigators said the plane left the Polk County airport at 10:24 am.
John Shelton, Surry County's director of emergency services, identified the six victims as 46-year-old Hal Echols, 46-year-old Steve Simpson,; 49-year-old Robert Butler; 46-year-old Tony Gunther; 52-year-old Frank Ruggiero; and 50-year-old John Wesley Rakestraw, who was piloting the plane when it took off.
The Georgia governor's office says Rakestraw, Simpson and Echols were prominent Georgia Republicans.

لقي ثمانية من كبار الضباط في الجيش الباكستاني، بينهم ثلاثة جنرالات، مصرعهم إثر تحطم مروحية عسكرية في منطقة القبائل شمال غربي البلاد الأربعاء.
حيث أعلن المتحدث باسم الجيش الباكستاني ان طائرة هليكوبتر عسكرية تحطمت يوم الأربعاء في منطقة وزيرستان الجنوبية مما ادى الى مقتل ثمانية عسكريين من بينهم جنرال مسؤول عن العمليات ضد مقاتلي طالبان في منطقة قبلية.
وقال المتحدث عسكري باسم الجيش الباكستاني إن الجنرال جاويد سلطان، أحد كبار قادة القوات الباكستانية العاملة في المنطقة المتاخمة للحدود مع أفغانستان، قُتل مع سبعة من كبار مساعديه، بينهم جنرالين آخرين.
وقتل الى جانب الميجر جنرال جويد سلطان قائد القوات في اقليم كوهات الذي يضم وزيرستان الجنوبية عدد من الضباط الذين يحملون رتبا عسكرية كبيرة.
وقال المتحدث "انه حادث. التحقيقات الاولية تشير الى ان السبب خطأ فني حيث استبعد المتحدث العسكري أن تكون الطائرة، التي تحطمت في جنوب وزيرستان، التي تشهد مواجهات بين قوات الجيش الباكستاني ومسلحين من تنظيم القاعدة وحركة طالبان، قد تعرضت لنيران معادية.

A Pakistani army helicopter has crashed in South Waziristan, killing eight people, including a general.

Pakistani army spokesman Major General Athar Abbas said the crash Wednesday, was an accident - apparently caused by a technical problem.

He said the crash killed Major General Javed Sultan, the commanding officer of the Kohat garrison in South Waziristan. Two brigadier generals also were among those killed.

The accident took place in Pakistan's tribal region near the border with Afghanistan, where security forces have been fighting Taliban and al-Qaida-linked insurgents.

The Cessna 210 headed from Lafayette, Louisiana to West Houston Airport crashed shortly before 7pm east of FM 3180 and south of 565 in Chambers County.
It was around a 7pm last night when neighbors heard a plane circle low and then a crash. When emergency crews arrived, they found the pilot dead at the scene.
Investigators suspect he was trying to land the plane at the private airport RWJ. He crashed in a wooded area not far from the airport. Authorities say the fog in the area may have contributed to the crash.

ويعتقد بأن أربعة أشخاص كانوا على متن الطائرة وهم كلاً من:
مايكل بايبيك 75 سنة


جويس بايبيك 70 سنة

ألفين بيكر 79 سنة

غايل بيوجال 68 سنة
وتم اكتشاف حطام الطائرة في منطقة مرتفعة (حوالي 4500 قدم) عن سطح البحر ومغطاة بالثلوج.

Authorities believe Michael Bybyk, 75, and Joyce Bybyk, 70, both of Fullerton, Alvin Baker, 79, of Chino, and Gail Pugel, 68, of Ontario, were in the twin-engine Cessna 340A when it disappeared into a cloud bank a week ago Saturday.
The plane apparently struck the side of a mountain, leaving wreckage spread throughout the area, said Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
``Some remains were collected today, but no positive IDs will be made without scientific proof,'' Gutierrez said.
At least one coroner's investigator was assigned to the crash, a deputy
coroner said this afternoon.
``It's a debris field 300 yards wide and a couple hundred yards long on steep, snowy, difficult terrain,'' Civil Air Patrol Capt. Andrea Binder said earlier. ``They have located some personal belongings, but nothing to confirm any identities at this point.''
One team of searchers walked in and another flew in, Binder said.
A sheriff's helicopter crew spotted wreckage before sundown yesterday in the middle branch of Millard Canyon, a rugged chasm north of Interstate 10 and east of Banning, sheriff's officials said.
The canyon cuts through the Morongo Band of Mission Indians Reservation and the San Gorgonio Wilderness.
``We've had five or six plane crashes in that area, on Kitching Peak,'' said Steve Bryant, 61, a veteran of the Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit since the 1960s. ``It happens periodically when there's fog in the pass, because Kitching Peak sticks out to the south.''
The summit of Kitching Peak juts into the pass at 6,598 feet elevation, and stands just east of Millard Canyon's east branch.
The plane wreckage was spotted yesterday in an area at about 4,500 feet elevation, which would have been covered by fresh snow during last weekend's blizzard.
Most snow at that elevation has since melted.
Meanwhile, an investigator with the Federal Aviation Administration or the National Transportation Safety Board was expected at the Hemet-Ryan airbase, said sheriff's Deputy Craig Roberts.
The plane was owned by the Bybyks, and family members reported the four people missing Wednesday night, Chino police said.

تم العثور على حطام طائرة خفيفة من نوع سيسنا طراز 140 والتعرف على جثة قائدها يوم أمس، ويذكر بأن الطائرة فقدة الأتصال مع مراقبة مينيوبليز يوم السبت عند الساعة 12:50 دقيقة ظهراً وكانت الطائرة متوجهة من ريتشموند إلى فولتن
وقد تم العثور على الطائرة بحسب المتحدثه بأسم هيئة الطيران الفدرالي في أحد الحقول جنوب غربَ روتشيستر عند الساعة التاسعة صباحا من اليوم التالي.

A pilot was found dead Saturday after a single-engine plane crashed in a field near this southern Minnesota town, the FAA said.
The pilot was not immediately identified. FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory said investigators believe the pilot was the only person on the Cessna 140.
The plane was flying from New Richmond, Wisc., to Fulton, Mo., with a stopover planned in Oskaloosa, Iowa. It went missing shortly after making contact with the FAA's Minneapolis center at about 12:50 a.m., when it was flying over the Rochester area.

About 50 members of the Minnesota Wing Civil Air Patrol started a ground search at about 2 a.m., focused on areas south of Rochester.

The plane was ultimately found just outside Grand Meadow, which is about 25 miles southwest of Rochester.

The Austin Daily Herald reported that the plane's wreckage was first spotted at about 9 a.m. by Larry Churchill and his son, Brian, who live nearby. They saw an object in the field, which they said was initially difficult to identify because of foggy conditions.

"Then we saw a wing," Brian Churchill told the newspaper. "My dad went out there and saw a body."

The Churchills called 911, and the Mower County Sheriff's Department was first to respond to the scene, according to the newspaper report.

Cory said the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board would investigate. She said there was no immediate indication of what caused the crash, and said she didn't know what weather conditions were at the time.

"We still have a lot of questions at this stage," Cory said.

An online search of the plane's tail number indicated that it was owned by a Stillwater, Minn., man. Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi said the identity of the pilot would be released on Sunday.

قتلت إمرأتان وهما سيدة وأبنت أختها في تحطم طائرتهم الخاصة على مربة من حدود مدينة ستانوو، يذكر أن السيدة تبلغ من العمر 54 سنة والأخرى بسن 34 سنة.
لم يكن هناك الكثير من المعلومات عن الحادث غير أن المتحدث بإسم الطيران الفدرالي ذكر بأن السيدة كانت تتحدث مع زوجها من خلال الهاتف الخلوي وبينت له أنها تعاني من مشاكل وأنها تفقد السيطرة على قدرتها.



2 dead in plane crash in Stanwood area
Two women died when a small aircraft crashed in a Snohomish County field this afternoo.
The pilot, a 54-year-old woman from Camano Island, told her husband shortly before the crash that she was losing or had lost power, according to Snohomish County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Rebecca Hover. It was not clear whether the pilot spoke with her husband by cellphone or some other means.
The pilot and her only passenger, her 34-year-old niece from Oak Harbor, died at the scene. The sheriff's office did not release the women's names. No one on the ground was injured.
The women had planned to fly a short distance, from Arlington Municipal Airport in Snohomish County to Camano Island, where the pilot had a private airstrip on her property.
Just before 1 p.m., the experimental fixed-wing aircraft crashed on its nose in a field near the 25700 block of 95th Avenue Northwest just outside Stanwood, Hover said.
The Federal Aviation Administration is leading the investigation and did not immediately return calls.

لقي ثلاثة أشخاص حتفهم أثر إصطدام طائرة صغيرة بمروحية في الجو شمالي العاصمة النيوزيلندية اليوم.
وذكر عمال إنقاذ أن رجلين كانوا على متن مروحية في رحلة تدريبية ماتوا بعد اصطدامها ببناية بسبب إحتكاك ذيلها بجناح طائرة صغيرة , وتسبب الحادث في موت قائد الطائرة الصغيرة بعد تحطمها في المستشفى.
وقال المتحدث بأسم الشرطة أن المروحية تحطمت فوق سقف مخزن للادوات في مستوطنة باراباروما الساحلية، ولم يتعرض أي من سكان المخزن لاصابات , وقد تحطمت الطائرة الصغيرة في شارع وتم نقل طيارها للمستشفى وتوفي فيما بعد.



LATEST: A light plane and a helicopter have crashed after colliding in mid-air above Paraparaumu, north of Wellington this morning.

It is understood two people from the helicopter were killed.
The collision appeared to occur above the Placemakers store about 11.15am. It is understood the crippled helicopter crashed into Placemakers and the light aircraft came down over Dennis Taylor Court, narrowly missing a house.
It is believed no customers or staff at the hardware store were injured.
It has been reported that the plane's pilot, the sole occupant, was alive when he was pulled from the wreckage. One eye witness told NZPA the pilot was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Eyewitness Anne Russell said she was watching the aircraft and thought they were getting too close to each other.
"Then the left wing of the plane heading west toward the airport clipped the tail of the helicopter that was heading south - broke the wing off the plane which spun to the ground. The chopper seemed to carry on in a straight line for a brief moment, then plummeted straight down to the ground at high speed.
"The scream of the chopper falling will haunt me for a while."
Emergency services from Wellington to Otaki are responding en masse to the crash, which is understood to have also caused serious injuries.
Inspector Steve Darroch from Wellington Police said police were dealing with two separate crash scenes.
Police were yet to determine how many people were on the plane and helicopter.
Firefighters, ambulance staff and police were at the scene.

An experienced rescue helicopter pilot and two other people have died after a light plane and a helicopter collided in mid-air above Paraparaumu, north of Wellington.
Flying instructor Dave Fielding and a student pilot undergoing a flying test died instantly when their Helipro helicopter plummeted through the roof of Placemakers in Kapiti Rd at 11.13am.
The plane's male pilot, the sole occupant, was taken by Westpac rescue helicopter to Wellington Hospital where he died late this afternoon from multiple injuries.
Square Trust Rescue heliopter chief pilot John Funnell said Mr Fielding, 30, had piloted a rescue helicopter for 14 months and was a highly qualified flight instructor and examiner.
"Dave was a great pilot with a great attitude. It is a huge loss to the rescue helicopter community and will be missed by us all," he said.
He said the Square Trust Rescue Helicopter team extended their sympathies to Mr Fielding's, three-month-old daughter, and his parents.
He was a popular and generous man, friends say, whose work with the trust helped save hundreds of lives.
His parents and fiance are said to be "absolutely devastated".
Mr Funnell said Fielding was a much loved and highly respected colleague who had been identified as having a very bright future.
"Just last Friday a lot of us at the trust got together to discuss things, and Dave was someone we talked about as having a very bright future ... we were trying to encourage him to get into management," Funnell said.
"He just had a great personality and a great way with people."
Within hours of the crash, the trust received calls from people expressing their grief at his passing and gratitude for his work.
"I have absolutely no doubt he touched many people ... the staff here are really struggling to come to terms with losing such a fantastic person.
"Our thoughts are with his family, and the families of others involved with the accident."
"I have always wanted to pilot a rescue helicopter," Mr Fielding said last year. "The job is both exciting and very rewarding."

تحطمت يوم السبت طائرة خفيفة ذات محركين في ولاية كنساس الامريكية، وقد وقعت الطائرة مباشرة بعد إقلاعها من المدرج في أحد المطارات غربي المدينة، وقد أدى الحادث إلى مقتل كل من أشوك باجاج وزوجته تريش باجاج.
ود رجح السيد جينيفر كاسير من هيئة سلامة النقل الجوي الامريكية أن يكون عامل سوء الأحوال الجوية السبب في وقوع الحادث، حيث أن الروؤية كانت منخفضة وكان هناك سحب منخفضة وأمطار فوق المنطقة.
وقد ذركر والد الطيار بأن أبنه كان ينوي التوقف في مطار قريب ليأخذ أحد أصدقائة ومن ثم يغادر إلى مدينة أستن في ولاية تكساس للمشاركة في مارثون.



WICHITA | A Wichita cardiologist and his wife were killed over the weekend when the twin-engine plane he was flying crashed shortly after taking off from an airport just east of town.
Family members identified the victims as Ashok Bajaj, 49, and his wife, Trish, 50. They were killed Saturday evening when their plane crashed and burned a mile from Benton Airpark in a muddy field, strewing debris for a half-mile.
Jennifer Kaiser of the National Transportation Safety Board said visibility and clouds were low at the time of the crash. Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy said it also was raining.
“It was not good, I can tell you that,” Murphy said.
Prem Bajaj, the pilot’s father, said his son had planned to land at a nearby airport to pick up a friend, then fly to Austin, Texas, to participate in a marathon.
Authorities are still trying to determine what caused the crash.
Prem Bajaj described his son as confident, decisive and a good communicator who decided to be a doctor soon after graduating from high school.
“In fact, I learned a lot from him,” Prem Bajaj, a former professor of math and statistics at Wichita State University, told The Wichita Eagle.
In 1991, The Eagle reported that Bajaj was the first physician in Kansas to perform a radio frequency ablation, which is a procedure used on patients with abnormally fast heartbeats.
“Once in a while, we used to talk when he was in medical school,” Prem Bajaj said. “He found patients waiting for such a long time, and he said, ‘When I become a doctor, I’m not going to make them wait.’ As his practice grew, he wasn’t always able to do that, but he said, ‘I still do my best.’”
Bajaj had been flying for about three years.
Trish Bajaj was active in Wichita service groups and taught English as a Second Language courses at a local church, Prem Bajaj said. She recently had taken flying lessons, he said.
The couple are survived by two sons, Brian, 22, who recently graduated form Kansas State University, and Kevin, 19, a freshman at the University of Kansas.

أفادت تقارير من فنزويلا بأن طائرة ركاب تقل 46 شخصاً تحطمت مساء الخميس في منطقة جبال الإنديز، دون أن يعرف مصير ركابها وأفراد الطاقم.
وقال مدير دائرة الدفاع المدني الوطني، أنطونيو ريفيرو، إن شهود عيان أفادوا بأن الطائرة تحطمت.
وكان أقارب الركاب قد توجهوا إلى المطار لمعرفة مصير أقاربهم وذويهم، فيما أدلى مدير شركة "سانتا باربرا" للنقل الجوي بتصريحات حول مصير الطائرة.
وتوجهت فرق الإنقاذ إلى موقع تحطم الطائرة، غير أن ريفيرو قال إن حالة الطقس السيئة وصعوبة الوصول إلى المنطقة قد تعيق جهود الإنقاذ.
وكانت السلطات الفنزويلية قد أعلنت مساء الخميس عن اختفاء طائرة مدنية تقل 46 راكباً أثناء رحلة لها بين مدينتي "ميريدا" و"ماكويتيا" بالقرب من العاصمة كراكاس.
وقال مدير هيئة الدفاع المدني في ميريدا، نويل ماركويست، في تصريح لشبكة التلفزيون الفنزويلية "غلوبوفيزيون" إن الطائرة اختفت.
وذكرت تقارير إعلامية من ميريدا إن الطائرة التابعة لخطوط "سانتا باربرا" كانت تقل 43 راكباً، إضافة إلى طاقمها المؤلف من ثلاثة أشخاص.
وأشارت التقارير إلى أن موعد وصول الطائرة المقرر إلى المدينة كان في السابعة مساء بحسب التوقيت المحلي.

وقالت السلطات الفنزويلية إن طائرة تجارية تقل 46 راكبا اعتبرت مفقودة في أجواء غرب البلاد بعد وقت قليل من إقلاعها من مطار بولاية ميريدا (680 كلم غرب كاراكاس) لكنها لم تؤكد بعد تحطم الطائرة.


وقد ذكرت وسائل إعلام محلية أن الطائرة التي تملكها شركة سانتا بربارا إيرلاينز تحطمت في منطقة جبلية في ولاية ميريدا.


من جانبه قال مدير الدفاع المدني في ميريدا، نلسون ماركيز إن أشخاصا من قطاع كويادو دل كوندور (غرب) شهدوا على سقوط طائرة.


ونقلت محطة / يونيون راديو / الإذاعية عن مسئولين فنزويليين إن طاقم إنقاذ هرع للوصول إلى مكان تحطم الطائرة الوعر في جبال الإنديز على ارتفاع 4750 مترا في بارامو بيدرا حيث تم رصد حطام الطائرة من الجو بعد البحث عن الطائرة المفقودة. ولم ترد بعد أنباء عن مصير الأشخاص الذين كانوا على متن الطائرة.
وأفادت تقارير صحفية بأن الطائرة / سانتا باربارا إيه تي أر 42 / ذات المحركين اختفت من على شاشات الرادار خلال رحلة داخلية في فنزويلا حيث كانت متجهة من ميريدا إلى مايكيتيا .. مشيرة الى ان الطائرة لم تجر أي اتصال لاسلكي بعد اختفائها من على شاشات الرادار بعد 40 دقيقة من بداية الرحلة التي تستغرق ساعتين.
وقد غيرت الطائرة ذات المحركين اتجاهها بسبب سوء الأحوال الجوية قبل فقدان الاتصال مع المراقبين الجويين.
وقال مسؤولو الدفاع المدني إن عمليات البحث ستؤجل يوم الجمعة بسبب سوء الأحوال الجوية. وتقع مريدا في منطقة جبلية على بعد 680 كيلومترا جنوب غربي العاصمة كاراكاس.

A Venezuelan commercial plane carrying up to 46 people has gone missing some 680 kilometres west of the capital Caracas.Eyewitnesses say they saw a plane come down in the Andean mountain state of Merida. The aircraft reportedly lost radio contact with air traffic control shortly after takeoff.
Civil defence officials say rescue teams will search for the plane in daylight because of the rugged terrain.

وقام بعض شعود العيان بالمساعدة على إخراج الأشخاص من الطائرات وتم نقلهم إلى مركز أورلندو الطبي الإقليميِ بالحروقِ الحادّةِ.

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — The Federal Aviation Administration says two people were killed in a collision involving two aircraft over the Arthur Dunn Airpark in Titusville.
FAA spokesman Warren Woodberry says the collision occurred around 8:30 a.m.
It was not immediately clear how the collision occurred.
Woodberry says one of the aircraft was classified as an experimental aircraft.
Officials say emergency responders found two airplanes off the runway, both on fire
Scott Gaenicke is public information officer and division chief for Titusville Fire and Emergency Medical Services. He says two people were rescued from one aircraft and were flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center. He says they had severe burns.
Gaenicke says two occupants of a second plane were killed and were believed to have died upon impact.

تحطمت طائرة مروحية تابعة للأمم المتحدة شرقي نيبال وسط تقارير أولية تشير إلى مصرع عشرة أشخاص على الأقل، فيما تواصل فرق الإنقاذ جهودها للوصول إلى حطام الطائرة في منطقة جبلية وعرة.
وقال سكان محليون، قاموا بتقديم المساعدة في انتشال جثث ضحايا الحادث، إن عشرة جثث على الأقل تم انتشالها حتى الآن، مشيرين إلى أن هناك مزيد من الجثث بين حطام الطائرة.
من جانبه، قال المتحدث باسم بعثة الأمم المتحدة في نيبال، كيران دوير، إنه ليست لديه أية معلومات حتى اللحظة، بشأن عدد الأشخاص الذين كانوا على متن المروحية، أو عدد الضحايا الذين خلفهم الحادث.

The UN aircraft was returning to the capital, Kathmandu, after a regular visit to a camp for former Maoist rebels in eastern Nepal.
The helicopter burst into flames after being struck by lightning in the remote Ramechhap district, 65km (40 miles) east of Kathmandu, witnesses said.
Ten bodies had been pulled from the wreckage, rescue workers said.
Thee crew members and seven UN officials - mainly weapons inspectors from the United Nations Mission in Nepal (Unmin) - were aboard the stricken vehicle.
The UN lost contact with the aircraft at about 1600 (1015 GMT), a spokesman said, adding that several Unmin parties had been dispatched to the hillside area where the helicopter went down.

كشفت مصادر أمنية أن مروحية عسكرية عراقية اختفت في أحوال جوية سيئة في شمالي بغداد فجر الثلاثاء.
وأوضحت المصادر أن الاتصال بملاحي المروحية فقد في الساعة الثالثة صباحاً أثناء القيام بعملية أمنية في محافظة "صلاح الدين."
وبدأت القوات الأمريكية والعراقية عملية بحث مشتركة عن المروحية التي لم يُكشف عن طرازها.
وقال شهود عيان إن القوات المشتركة قامت بعمليات تمشيط دقيقة في بلدة "شرقات" والمناطق المحاذية لها، واستجواب سكان المنطقة إذا ما شهدوا المروحية تهبط اضطرارياً. وتقع "شرقات" على بعد 185 ميلاً شمالي العاصمة بغداد.
وذكر المصدر انه تم العثور على حطام الطائرة قرب بلدة بيجي التابعة لمحافظة صلاح الدين حيث تحطمت وهي في طريق العودة من الموصل الى بغداد.
واشار المصدر الى ان جميع ركاب المروحية لقوا حتفهم في الحادث وهم سبعة جنود عراقيين وجندي امريكي واحد بمن فيهم الطاقم.
ولفت الى ان الجهات الامنية فتحت تحقيقا في الحادث مرجحا ان يكون سببه سوء الاحوال الجوية في المنطقة.
يذكر ان الاتصال كان قد فقد منذ مساء امس مع المروحية التابعة لسلاح الجو العراقي والمخصصة للنقل وهي روسية الصنع من طراز (ام أي 17).

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A small jet airplane crashed in a wooded area Tuesday afternoon near Wiley Post Airport in northwest Oklahoma City, and prelminary indications were that one person was killed, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said.
The Cessna 500 crashed about 3:15 p.m. News video from the scene Tuesday afternoon showed a small fire and the charred wreckage.
FAA spokesman Roland Herwig said the twin-engine aircraft was traveling from Wiley Post airport to Mankato, Minn., when it crashed about five miles southwest of the airport.
The aircraft was registered to Southwest Orthopedic Sports Medicine Clinic in Oklahoma City, Herwig said.
Greg Horton, an eyewitness who was fishing in Lake Overholser, told Oklahoma City television station KWTV that he saw the airplane crash and saw a fireball.
The Cessna 500 business jet can hold two pilots and at least five passengers.

Two people, including Lafayette businessman and civic leader Patrick LeBlanc, were killed Monday night in the crash of a single-engine plane along LA-82 near Abbeville.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board. The flight originated in Jackson, Mississippi. The 53-year-old LeBlanc of Youngsville and the pilot, 60-year-old R. Solomon Reed Jr. of Opelousas, were killed when the plane went down just after 8 p.m. Monday about five-miles north of Abbeville.
The preliminary investigation is expected to be completed early next week, NTSB spokesman Keith Holloway said.
He said the full investigation generally takes a year or more and will consider all possible causes, including equipment failure, pilot error and bad weather.
Reed, 60, of Opelousas, had taught flying and done contract pilot work for several years in Acadiana.
He piloted part-time and also worked as a respiratory therapist at area hospitals, said Ricky Gennuso, a friend who once employed Reed to teach flying at the St. Landry Parish Airport.
“He was a very competent pilot, and all the students loved him,” Gennuso said.
LeBlanc had a long history of civic service, serving in leadership positions with the Lafayette Jaycees, the Acadiana Homebuilders Association, Concerned Citizens for Good Government and the Cajundome Commission.
He was an active fundraiser for local and national political campaigns and Republican causes, hosting fundraisers at his home for U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany — featuring guest Vice President Dick Cheney —and GOP presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani.
“Pat was my dear friend, a loving family man and a leader in the Lafayette community. It is a terrible loss, and my thoughts and prayers are with Jennifer and his children. Bridget and I will miss him greatly,” Boustany said in a statement his office released Tuesday.
LeBlanc was an architect by profession and with his brother owned LCS Corrections Services, which operates private prisons in Louisiana, Alabama and Texas.

It appeared that the plane crashed behind homes in the neighborhood. Firefighters were at the scene.
One person was killed in the crash, an N.C. state trooper told WCNC.
The plane is registered to Manning Companies, which is a building and developing company that works in such neighborhoods as Morrocroft, Myers Park, and Carmel Country Club. They also develop speculative homes in several Union County neighborhoods

Ukrainian helicopter crashes into Black Sea
KIEV, Ukraine (AP) - A Ukrainian border guards helicopter crashed into the Black Sea Thursday leaving 12 people missing, emergency officials said.
Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman Ihor Krol said the Mi-8 helicopter was carrying a crew of three and 10 passengers when it crashed into shallow waters near the coast before noon.
He said one passenger was found alive near the crash scene and rescue workers were searching for other possible survivors.
The helicopter was en route from the Black Sea port of Odessa to the nearby Zmeinyi Island in the Black Sea when the crash occurred, Krol said.
Crashes of the Mi-8 - a workhorse helicopter used widely in civilian aviation and the military - occur frequently in Ukraine and Russia and often are blamed on poor maintenance and excessive age.-AP
A helicopter belonging to the Ukrainian border guard service has crashed into the Black Sea with 13 people on board.
Twelve have been confirmed dead. One person has been found alive, although he is in a critical condition.
The Mi-8 helicopter was on a flight from Odessa to Zmiyinyy Island. It is thought to have crashed at about 1130 (0930 GMT).

أعلنت الشرطة البريطانية أن طائرة ركاب صغيرة تحطمت في منطقة سكنية جنوب غربي العاصمة لندن، بعد ظهر الأحد، وقالت التقارير إنّ مصير ركابها الخمسة مازال مجهولا.
وقالت مصادر الشرطة إن الطائرة الخاصة سقطت في منطقة "فارنبورا"، التي تبعد نحو 60 كيلومتراً (40 ميلاً) من جنوب غربي لندن، في حوالي 2:37 ظهر الأحد، 9:37 صباحاً بتوقيت الساحل الأمريكي الشرقي.
ووفق الملاحظات الأولية فإنّ الطائرة اصطدمت بسقف بناية سكنية، حيث أظهرت صور فيديو حطام السقف الذي اشتعلت فيه النيران وبالقرب منها ما يبدو أنه حطام الطائرة.
وذكرت شرطة سكوتلانديارد إن العديد من الأشخاص كانوا على الأرض أًُصيبوا جراء ارتطام الطائرة بعدد من المنازل، مما أدى إلى اشتعال النيران بها.
وقد أظهرت مشاهد فيديو تم بثها للحادث الطائرة وهي تقترب للارتطام بمبنى مكون من طابقين، بمنطقة "برودووتر غاردنز"، قبل أن يُسمع صوت انفجار تصاعدت على أثره ألسنة اللهب وسحب الدخان غطت سماء المنطقة.
وعادة ما تستخدم الطائرات الخاصة مطار "فارنبورا"، الذي يستضيف أيضاً عرضاً جوياً دولياً يُقام كل عامين، وهو أحد أضخم المعارض في مجال صناعة الطيران في العالم.

Five killed in Kent plane crash

Two pilots and three passengers have been killed after their small plane crashed into a housing estate in Farnborough, Kent.
No survivors were found after the Cessna Citation 1 jet came down in Romsey Close at about 1430 BST.
The plane - which was en route from nearby Biggin Hill airfield to France - burst into flames, destroying a garage and house, which was empty at the time.
No-one on the ground was badly injured, but two people were treated for shock.
The people who live in the damaged house were away on holiday.
They have returned since the crash and are being comforted by friends.
Andrew Walters, chairman of Biggin Hill Airport, confirmed that the passengers were on a business trip to France. The aircraft had just taken off when the pilot made an emergency call and asked for permission to land again.
"Unfortunately it crashed before reaching the airport," Mr Walters said.
A pilot named as John, who was landing another plane at Biggin Hill, heard the mayday call. The Cessna pilot reported "severe engine vibrations", he said.
He told the BBC: "You could hear the alarms in the cockpit.
"The pilot came back over the radio a second or two later and said 'We're going down, we're going down'.
"The radio stayed live, and as I turned off the runway I looked back and I saw the plane basically drop out of the sky.
"And then the radio went dead and black smoke came up from over the hill."

وأسفر الحادث عن مصرع ثلاثة أشخاص ونقل ستة آخرون كانوا على متن المروحية، وهي من طراز أم أي 8، إلى مستشفى مجلي لتلقي العلاج.
وقالت هيئة الإسعاف النرويجية إنّ سبب الحادث لم يعرف بعد.

Russian helicopter crash on Spitsbergen kills 3; injures 3
OSLO, Norway - A Russian helicopter crashed Sunday while attempting to land at the remote settlement of Barentsburg on Norway's Svalbard islands in the Arctic, killing three.
There were six other people aboard the Mi8 helicopter and they were taken to a local clinic for treatment, said Sten Rune Nikolaisen, of the Norwegian rescue co-ordination centre from northern Norway.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known, he said by telephone.
Barentsburg is a Russian mining settlement of about 400 people allowed on the Norwegian islands under a 1920 treaty that declares the archipelago an international zone open to all countries for non-military activities.
The Svalbard islands are about 500 kilometres north of the Norwegian mainland.

أكدت مصادر رسمية في سورينام الخميس، أن طائرة ركاب كان على متنها نحو 19 أو 20 شخصاً، تحطمت في منطقة غابات جنوبي البلاد، مما أسفر إلى مصرع جميع ركابها.

وقال مصدر آخر لأسوشيتد برس، وهو مدير قسم أمن الطيران، بريان ديسوزا، إن 19 شخصاً كانوا على متن الطائرة المنكوبة، وجميعم من سورينام.

واضاف ديسوزا أن الطائرة كانت قد أقلعت من العاصمة باراماريبو وتحطمت في منطقة غابات وعرة قرب المطار الذي كان من المقرر أن تنهي فيه رحلتها.

ولم يتم على الفور الكشف عن سبب تحطم الطائرة، بحسب المصدر، الذي قال: "الناس المحليون تمكنوا من الوصول إلى موقع حطام الطائرة، وهم يعرفون حقيقة الموقف حالياً"، مشيراً إلى أنه تم إرسال فرق للتحقيق إلى هناك."

وتقع سورينام، والتي كانت تعرف في السابق باسم "غويانا الهولندية"، في شمال شرق قارة أمريكا الجنوبية، على ساحل المحيط الأطلسي.

Plane crashes in southern Surinam
Twenty people are feared dead in a plane crash in a remote gold-mining area of Surinam in South America.
The twin-engine Antonov AN-28 took off from Paramaribo, capital of the former Dutch colony. Local radio said it went down at Benzdorp in the south.

لقي خمسة طيارين فيتناميين حتفهم اليوم إثر تحطم طائرة عسكرية فوق حقل أرز على مشارف العاصمة هانوي فى كوميون تا تانه اواى بناحية تانه ترى الريفية، وفقا لما ذكره المسؤول بالقيادة العسكرية .
واوضح مسئول عسكري في هانوي في تصريح لوكالة الانباء الالمانية بأن طائرة النقل طراز أنتونوف إيه.إن-26 سقطت في حقل الارز في منطقة /تا ثانه اوي/ على مشارف هانوي.مشيرا إلى أن الحادث وقع أثناء طلعة تدريبية وأن جميع الطيارين لقوا حتفهم على الفور. وأضاف أن سبب الحادث لم يعرف.

وذكر المسؤول "ان بعض السكان المحليين قالوا إنهم سمعوا انفجارا فى الهواء. وشاهدوا الطائرة وهى تسقط على الارض. ومن المؤكد ان الاشخاص الذين استقلوا الطائرة كانوا فى رحلة تدريبية".
