قال ناطق بأسم الطيران الكندي - بأن الرحلة المتوجهه من تورنتو إلى لندن يوم الثلاثاء الماضي تم تحولها إلى شانون في إيرلنده.
وكان ذلك بسبب أن مساعد قائد الطائرة شعر بآلام شديدة، مما أضطر الكابتن لإختيار مطار شانون في إيرلنده ليقوم بإجراء هبوط أضطراري هناك.
وذكر تقرير لصحيفةِ فيتزبتريك الآيرلنديةِ المستقلةِ بأن مساعدِ الطيار عانى من إنهيار عصبي، مما إضطرهم إلا أنزاله من الطائرة بالقوة، إلا أن الناطق بأسم الطيران الكندي رفض التعليق على ذلك غير أنه ذكر بأن مساعد الكابتن كان يمر بظروف سيئة. كما ذكر الناطق بإسم الطيران الكندي بإن إدارته لا تخبر بأي معلومات خاصة عن حياة موظفيها
ذكر أحد شهود العيان من المسافرين - بأن الرحلة تأخرت لمدة 8 ساعات وكذلك ذكر بأنه رأى مساعد قائد الطائرة مكبلاً وتم حمله من كابينة الطائرة بالقيود، وكان يصرخ بصوت عالي أحياناً وأنه كان يتلفظ بأنه يريد الحديث مع (الله).
في تلك الاثناء - رتب للمسافرون إقامة في أحد الفنادق إلى حين وصول طاقم أخر من كندا وأخذا الطائرة.
An Air Canada flight from Toronto to London made an emergency landing in Ireland after the co-pilot became ill in the cockpit, an airline spokesman said.
The flight from Toronto to London diverted to Shannon, Ireland, early Monday morning.
"The co-pilot fell ill during the flight and the captain elected to divert," Peter Fitzpatrick, an Air Canada spokesman, said Tuesday.
"The aircraft landed without incident," he said. "At no time were the safety of the passengers or crew in question. The flight was met by medical personnel and the individual is now in care."
Fitzpatrick would not confirm a report by the Irish Independent newspaper that the co-pilot suffered a nervous breakdown and had to be forcibly removed from the flight. He said the airline does not provide details about personnel issues. He also declined to comment on whether the co-pilot was undergoing pyschiatric care and had no details on how long he would be hospitalized in Ireland.
