قال المسؤلين في ولاية كارولينا الجنوبية ان الطائرة كانت تحاول الهبوط اضطراريا وقد قتلت رجلا كان يمشي او الركض على طول الشاطئ.
وقالت المتحدثة باسم الانقاذ ان الطائرة ذات المحرك الواحد بدأت تسريب النفط عند حوالي 13،000 قدم (3،900 متر) ، وكانت تحاول الهبوط في مطار هيلتون رئيس جزيرة.
قال كابتن الطائرة ان الوقود حجب الرؤية عنه وحاول الهبوط الأراضي على شاطئ البحر في كثبان بالميتو في وقت متأخر بعد ظهر اليوم الاثنين.
وقال ان الطائرة سقطت على رجل كان يمشي على الشاطئ، ومن ناحية أخرة لم يتم التصريح بأسم أسماء الرجل الذي قتل ، ولا أسم الطيار والراكب الذي كان معه.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.—A plane made an emergency landing on Hilton Head Island Monday, killing one person.

Officials confirm the individual who was killed was not in the plane, but bystander on the beach. Hilton Head Fire Marshal Joheida Fister said the victim was a man who was exercising on the beach.

Authorities also say the plane was on the way from Orlando to Virginia, and had engine trouble. The first sign of trouble was as oil leak. The pilot reportedly wanted to land at Hilton Head’s airport, but oil then covered the windshield, and the propeller “left the plane.“

An FAA spokesperson tells WSAV the plane landed around 6:05 p.m., about halfway into the flight.

Flight records show the plane was en route to Hampton Roads Executive in Chesapeake, Virginia. It left Orlando Executive Airport around 4:51 p.m. Monday according to FlightAware.com. The plane was scheduled to arrive in Virginia at 7:38 p.m. The site also says the plane flew from Hampton Roads Executive to Orlando Executive early this morning, departing at 6:55 a.m. and arriving in Florida at 9:28 a.m.

The Beaufort County Coroner is on scene, and the FAA and NTSB are on the way, officials say.

According to FAA records, the plane is a Lancair IV-P, a fixed wing single-engine plane. The plane is registered to a Edward Smith of Chesapeake, Virginia.

The pilot in last week's fatal airplane crash told federal investigators he couldn't remember whether the landing wheels were deployed when the small aircraft flipped during a water landing on Lewisville Lake.

Three witnesses reported seeing the wheels sticking out from underneath the pontoons of the plane when Kenneth Gedney attempted to land about 4 p.m. March 18 near Stewart Peninsula Park in The Colony, according to a National Transportation Safety Board report.

Gedney, the owner of the plane, told investigators the airplane touched down on the calm water with "no skips or bounces" and flipped over its nose and into the water upside down. The wheels are supposed to be stowed in the wheel wells during water landings.

The crash killed his passenger and assistant, 41-year-old Kristin Kolby. A boater pulled the unconscious Gedney from the water and revived him by administering CPR.

Gedney is president of Addison-based OptiSky, a firm that helps clients acquire and manage aircraft, according to its Web site.

The site states that Gedney has 31 years' experience in the aircraft industry, including more than 10,000 hours of flight time.
