Incident: India A320 at Jammu on Jun 9th 2017, overran runway on landing


An Air India Airbus A320-200, registration VT-ESL performing flight AI-821 from Delhi to Jammu (India) with 134 people on board, landed on Jammu's runway 36 at about 12:15L (06:45Z) but despite applying emergency brakes overran the end of the runway coming to a stop with all gear on soft ground past the paved surface of the runway end safety area. The aircraft was evacuated. No injuries are being reported. 4 of 8 main tyres were damaged and deflated as result of the emergency braking.

The airline reported the aircraft burst a tyre on landing in Jammu. All passengers are safe.

On Sep 14th 2017 India's DGCA reported the occurrence was rated a serious incident, an investigation was opened. The DGCA reported after touchdown the aircraft drifted off the runway center line and the crew did not acquire the required braking. The aircraft overshot the runway and came to a stop past the runway end.

Jammu features a runway 18/36 of 6700 feet/2040 meters length.
