The company is in a bid to invest in delivery networks in the Middle East in expectation of growing demand for faster deliveries to the region

Dubai Expo 2020’s official logistics provider, UPS, has started a new non-stop to Dubai from its hub in Louisville in response to demand from its customers for more capacity to the Middle East.

Operated by UPS’ newly received fleet of Boeing 747-8 aircraft, the largest aircraft UPS has ever operated will fly 12,400 kilometres on the longest route UPS has serviced to cut transit times from North America to the Middle East by a day.

“Our customers are demanding more capacity… [so] UPS has made a strategic investment in 747-8 jumbo jets, the largest aircraft we have ever flown, to offer sustainable lift on long-range international routes like this," said Brendan Canavan, president, UPS Airlines.

The US’ largest export destination in the Middle East, Dubai is also the base for its operations into 74 countries in the Middle East, South Asia and Africa.

The company has been partnering with companies across high growth markets in India, Pakistan, is looking to build a stronger networks in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and expand its operations in the UAE.

The company’s global chief has been vocal about diverting a major chunk of the $6.5 billion investment UPS is making in its networks to accelerate deliveries toward operations in the Middle East.

"The UAE trades with all 50 US states and has grown to become the US's largest export destination in the Middle East. Dubai's importance as a global trade hub increases every day – and we're now getting there a day faster from North and South America with our small package express carrier and cargo offerings," said Jim Barber, president, UPS International.

"Growth potential is great for Canadian companies accessing the UAE and other rapidly developing industrial and commercial sectors in the region. Our new flight is another example of how UPS's smart global logistics network, which carries three per cent of the world's GDP every day, constantly evolves to service increasing international trade demands."
