The order reconfirms strong demand for the A330 which has seen a rebound partially because of the delays in the Boeing 787 delivery ramp-up and the later-than-anticipated entry-into-service of the A350XWB.
Naef is implementing a massive strategy shift at Gulf Air. In spite of the loss of Oman, Abu Dhabi and Qatar as shareholders over the past few years and massive losses, the airline is repositioned in growth mode. It plans to broaden its Middle Eastern network, but also adds to long-haul flying with its new A330s. According to Naef, China and India are in its focus, but Gulf Air would also like to add to its European capacity with potential double daily flights to Frankfurt and a daily service to Munich as initial growth targets.
