Two killed in helicopter crash off Greek island
The four persons on board the ER-MHY (Mi- 8 MTV-1) type helicopter were three foreign nationals (from Romania and Moldova) and a Greek, according to an e-mailed press release from the Fire Brigade.
A Greek coast guard official announced that two people were killed yesterday in the crash of a helicopter that was participating in efforts to extinguish a forest fire on the Greek island of Samos.
Reuters quoted the Coast Guard as saying that the helicopter, which was carrying four people on board, crashed into the sea, killing two people, while two others were rescued. It was not clear why the plane crashed.
A firefighting official said the government had chartered the plane to fight forest fires.
The Greek authorities announced yesterday that three people were missing today in the helicopter crash.
