Dear Gentleman, I will give you a short summary regarding Aircraft Engine Fire. 1) Engine Fire Type 2) Some Engine Fire Causes 3) Engine Fire Detection System 4) Engine Fire Extinguishing System.

1) Engine Fire Types:
A) Inlet Engine Fire which means that you can see the fire at the inlet area of the engine air intake.
B) Engine Tail Pipe Fire which means that you can see the fire flaming out from the exhaust area of the engine. This fire usually cased by a fire inside the engine itself inside the engine core. In General the tail pipe fire seems as if the engine is exhausting fire instead of exhaust gas.

2) Engine Fire Causes:
A) Improper installation of lines or tubes of Hydraulic or Fuel on the engine. Note that area there is very hot.
B) High Quantity of fuel accumulated in the combustion chamber of the engine.
C) Borescope Inspection Hole improperly closed after carrying out Borescope inspection for the engine.
D) Friction Of Rotor Blades with the contour.
E) Internal engine damage (Loose Rotor Blades) which leave their groove or assembly. This blade will hit the complete set of the blades stages and may cause more than fire (Explosion).

3) The fire detection system: consists of fire detection loops usually three or four loops in diffrent engine areas. These loops has thermocouples. the thermocouples are connected by wiring with FDU - Fire Detection Unit which is a computer that receives signals as current or voltage values and change it to temperature data. The FDU then will transfer this data to other computers that will alert the pilot there is engine fire.

4) The fire extinguishing System:
In the engine pylon, there is a fire extinguishing bottle. Usually Two Bottles. These bottles has something called Squib. The squib is acting as opening valve of the bottle when there is a fire. It il explode when current sent to it through the system. So when there is a fire detected by the fire detection system the pilot will pres the a button that ill send lectrical current to the squib and the squib in turn will explode causing the bottle to discharge the fire extinguisher agent through different nozzles around the engine.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A BASIC SUMMARY FOR JET ENGINES FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM.

Hope that these information will help you.
