5 airline passengers injured by turbulence on Grenada to Miami flight
An American Airlines flight from Grenada to Miami gave passengers an extremely bumpy ride — with five passengers taken to a local hospital for minor injuries from the severe turbulence.
American’s Flight 982, which departed from Maurice Bishop International Airport in Grenada, landed at Miami International Airport shortly before noon Thursday. It carried 74 passengers and a five-member crew.
In a statement, American said the plane “encountered turbulence during flight. The seatbelt sign was illuminated at the time and the pilots did not have any indication of severe turbulence in the area.”
American said the plane, an Airbus A319, “landed without further incident.”
The airline’s “CARE team,” which assists passengers and their families after emergencies, is providing support to the injured passengers.
