Noran : Some Common Questions Asked From People Who Want To Work As Cabin Crew

Am I too old at 50 to become a cabin crew member?
No defiantly not, the majority of airlines have a maximum age limit of 54.
Are there airlines that recruit people at 18?
Yes, there are a number of airlines that now recruit at 18.
I cannot speak another language, is this going to stop me from applying?
Not at all speaking another language is not essential to becoming cabin crew although it is desirable.
I never got any GCSE’s at school will this stop me from becoming cabin crew?
No, there are some airlines that do understand that not everybody excels at school but still have the ability to become a cabin crew member. If you do not have any GCSE’s but do have a higher education or if you have gained plenty of customer service experience they will still consider your application.
Do I have to live close to the airport that I would be based at whilst working as cabin crew?
The majority of airlines will require you to live within a 60 minute radius of the airport that you are based at. This is mainly because when you are on stand-by you may get called up to work at short notice so cannot have to far to travel. Apart from this it is much better to be close to the airport as there is nothing worse then finishing a 10 hour shift to then have to drive a long way to get home!
Will I have to pay for my SEP (Safety & Emergency Procedures) training once recruited as cabin crew?
No, once you have been recruited by an airline they will pay for your SEP training and your uniform.
How much will I earn working as a cabin crew member?
Starting salaries are normally around 14k per annum including flight pay. Flight pay is an hourly rate paid to you for every hour you are working away from base.
I have children; will this affect my chances of becoming cabin crew?
No, many cabin crew members have children of their own. Whilst working as cabin crew you will receive your working roster for a month allowing you plenty of time to arrange somebody to look after them whilst you work.
I wear glasses and have heard that I can only work as a cabin crew member if I have perfect eyesight, Is this true?
No, airlines are fine about people who wear glasses or contact lenses
